Micro-Denier Critical Use Wipes

The use of microfiber wipes has grown exponentially recently as end-users in various industries realized the improved performance and contaminant “pick-up & hold” capabilities. Teknipure microfiber wipes feature split fibers of polyester & nylon, which result in very small filament size and increased density and surface area. Microfiber offers many benefits as compared to traditional polyester knit fabrics. However, there is a significant increase in cost, which thwarts volume usage in many cases where economics plays a dominant role in product selection.

Teknipure offers a powerful solution with its micro-denier polyester wipes. This fabric is made up of microfilament split yarn polyester/nylon, and standard filament polyester. It provides great abrasion resistance, a soft non-scratching hi-density texture, and excellent “pick-up” of wide contaminant size range due to the enhanced density and variation of fiber size. The fabric make-up also features improved performance in eliminating bio-burdens; the organics are captured within the fabric structure. The manufacturing and materials cost of this fabric is considerably less than that of microfiber and provides for many of the benefits of microfiber at an economical cost of use.

Teknipure offers micro-denier polyester in dry (TC2PMDU1) & pre-saturated (TS2PMDUI09/70) wipes, as well as dry (TM-RMC815MD) & pre-saturated (TM-RMCI06Z-815MD) mop-head covers, & dry (TS-FMD-3/5/6) & pre-saturated (TM-FMD-5-IPA) swabs. This product offering allows for the end-user to realize the benefits of micro-denier polyester across all cleaning platforms & surfaces.

Microfiber’s Colorful History and Women’s Swimwear

There were many groundbreaking inventions in the 1950s, including the passenger jet, the solar cell, and the video cassette recorder, to name a few. One invention, which at the time, wasn’t quite as flashy as the others, was the process of extruding polyamide. This new technology brought a flood of researchers intending to produce ultra-fine fibers of a continuous filament type.

With so many in the race to perfect this process, there isn’t a precise date for the invention of microfiber. However, one of the most unusual (and entertaining) accounts of its history took place about 45 years ago. A team of Japanese scientists, Dr. Miyoshi Okamoto and Dr. Toyohiko Hikota developed a microfiber material.

It’s said these scientists were looking for a new fabric to use for women’s swimwear. They wanted to develop a soft, lightweight fabric with an attractive fit. Their microfiber material met all of these requirements, yet the swimsuits were a flop. It turned out the fabric absorbed water, making the suits heavy when wet. Not a great trait for a swimsuit!

From failure comes success! Around ten years later, European scientists took a closer look at microfiber. They realized that such a highly absorbent fabric, while a poor choice for swimwear, could be ideal for cleaning purposes. The material was further refined, and in 2001, the use of microfiber material for cleaning began.

Teknipure will be at the NHIA’s annual conference, the leading education and networking event for the home and specialty infusion community, where clinical pharmacists, infusion nurses, registered dieticians, reimbursement specialists, technicians, consultants, owners, and executives all come together for four exciting days of learning, networking, and Expo.

We will also be exhibiting at ESTECH 2000. ESTECH is a leading conference for professionals in three distinct fields: Contamination Control/Cleanrooms, Environmental Test and Reliability, and Nanotechnology Facilities. ESTECH offers more than 100 opportunities to learn, network, influence, grow, and contribute. It includes a great lineup of seminars, training classes, Working Group meetings, and networking events.
